Featured here is a graphite pencil illustration I created of another beloved Pittsburgh landmark. Forbes Field, nicknamed “The House of Thrills” was a baseball park in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. It served as the third home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the first home of the Steelers, as well as the University of Pittsburgh football team. The stadium was named after British general, John Forbes who fought in the French & Indian War and named the city of Pittsburgh in 1758. The Pirates won three World Series titles while at Forbes Field in 1909, 1925 and 1960. In 1921, it was the first live radio broadcast of a MLB game in the United States. Forbes Field was the location of one of the greatest moments in sports history. In the final game of the 1960 Word Series, Bill Mazeroski earned immortal fame by hammering a dramatic game winning walk-off home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning against the New York Yankees. My dad enjoyed going to this ballpark with his father and brothers in the 50′s and 60′s to see their childhood heroes like Clemente and Maz. This has become a favorite amongst Pittsburghers looking for that perfect Fathers Day gift! steelcityartist steelcityartist/limited-edition-digital-art/sports-art-2-3-2/
