Featured on 3blindmiceusa/roller/ Roller shades can work well on commercial storefront doors. There are many ways to cover the window depending on the type of door hardware you have and your local building codes. The cleanest way is a roller / solar shade which is very durable, does not make noise or get destroyed easily like mini blinds or other shades. If there is panic hardware on the door you can do a waterfall roller shade which passes over the panic hardware usually with a little help. Keep in mind there are some fire codes that do not allow for this and in this situation we do 2 separate shades on the top and the bottom. Not our favorite look but it is effective and it meets building codes. You can typically either mount the shades inside the door frame which leaves more light gaps on the side or on the outside of the door frame which eliminated the light gaps. You can finish off the roller shade with a nice aluminum fascia or even a wood valance. It is important to look at clearance when doing outside mounted roller shades with fascia or a valance, if it is too close to the edge of the door frame it might hit the wall or the door frame when the door is open so those details are important and often missed. Other products that would work on would be cellular or honeycomb shades, woven woods and roman shades. Another final thing to consider for commercial applications is the fire rating of the material. Make sure materials have a NFPA-701 fire rating to protect yourself from a surprise visit from the fire department. Most of the products listed above have that rating.
