February 3 from OUTING; ALL QUOTED. Bill Steele February 3 · Toronto Many people are asking me about what makes me a good candidate for Oshawa Council. I will list a few items. I have a great job now, 26 years with the City of Toronto, Im not job hunting. I am dedicated to finding efficiencies within the corporation. I wont be a follower, Ill be a leader on council. My priority will be residents first, that means community respect, and consultation with the number one stakeholder - YOU. Jobs Jobs Jobs, Ill be proactively seeking economic investment in our community to replace whats been lost for several years. GM might be moving out in 2016 ? Hello ? They left a long time ago 35,000 workers (plus) down to 3,500. (Most dont live in Oshawa). Its OVERDUE to find a solution. We have empty factories and empty land. A Costco and a fruit packing plant wont do it. We need a plan, (and we know that this administration knows nothing about planning). Threats of 10% or 20% tax increases if GM leaves is a possibility, but beware those who base their whole campaign on fear mongering, we will survive and prosper in Oshawa ! Ill be focused on curb appeal as well. If we look good, we feel good, and we will attract people, businesses and jobs. Im running locally because we have more problems at the local level than we do at the regional level. Ill be adding more of my platform soon. I appreciate this group, and any feedback that anyone has. UnlikeUnlike · · Share You, Tim Bird, Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Wolf Witzgall and 12 others like this. Bruce Borland Here is one our uncreative in the box thinkers on the existing council have missed, medicinal cannabis grow ops. The federal government cannot find enough growers and some of our old existing factories may just fit the purpose. We could construct secure green houses, then, when full legalization comes, and it will, we will be ready with a totally new industry. We could even grow hemp on the brown lands, and create a clothing industry and other industries from the product. Why not? From what you have said here, I can say that you and I share similar views when it comes to looking forward for the city. Will be looking forward to your action plans and other matters. Thank-you. Its sad to recall that John Henry had many of those same ideas in his campaign literature. Not sure why he abandoned them so readily. To this day, I still dont understand why Mayor John Henry detoured so DRASTICALLY from a path he promised voters before the election. He went from day to night in nanoseconds. February 3 at 8:10pm · Like · 1 Bill Steele The thing we all know is that there is FAT at our City Hall. An immediate 10% cut to all departments should be implicated. Can it be done ? Oh YES. The City of Toronto did it, and the impact was ZERO on the services to the City. How ? Well. A message was delivered to department heads: CUT 10% or your contract will not be renewed.... Guess what ? Every single department was able to achieve this goal without a problem. Even after recent downsizing, it was achieved. No layoffs, no cutbacks, no contracting out. The upper staff worked hard and made the proper efficiencies to make this happen. Even the Police Chief was able to achieve the goal. So is Oshawa any different ? Why is this administration cuddling up to staff ? This would be a great exercise, and easily attained. It will show is taxpayers ..who in upper staff want to earn their keep. We need to challenge our staff. Adding money year after year is the easy way. Finding efficiencies is where you see the cream rise to the top. February 4 at 6:10am · Like
