With a stage show that features guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors, and baby dolls, he is considered by fans and peers alike to be The Godfather of Shock Rock. -------------- 1951: Born, Phillip W. Ehart is the drummer in the progressive rock band Kansas. He and Rich Williams are the only two members who have appeared on every Kansas album. Though his songwriting contributions to the group were rare, he co-wrote two of their biggest hits, Point of Know Return and Play the Game Tonight. -------------- 1952: Jerry Shirley is an English rock drummer, best known as a member of the band Humble Pie, appearing on all their albums. He is also known for his work with Fastway, Joey Molland from Badfinger, David Gilmour, Alexis Korner, Billy Nicholls, Syd Barrett, John Entwistle, Sammy Hagar and Benny Mardones -------------- 1959: Frankie Avalon and Jimmy Clanton were brought on to the Winter Dance Party after the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Vallens and the Big Bopper. -------------- 1960: Billy Walker joined the Grand Ole Opry. -------------- 1962: Born, Clinton Patrick Clint Black is an American country music singer-songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist and occasional actor. Signed to RCA Nashville in 1989, Blacks debut album Killin Time produced four straight number one singles on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Although his momentum gradually slowed throughout the 1990s, Black consistently charted hit songs into the 2000s. He has had more than 30 singles on the US Billboard country charts, twenty-two of which have reached number one. -------------- 1966: Bob Dylan opened a world tour in Louisville, KY. It was his first with electric instruments. -------------- 1967: The Monkees self-titled debut album started a seven-week run at No.1 on the UK chart. -------------- 1970: John Lennon & Yoko Ono donated a bag of their cut hair to Michael X for an auction to aid the Black Power movement. Michael X then gave them a pair of Muhammad Ali’s boxing shorts. -------------- 1972: Senator Strom Thurmond sent a note to Attorney General John Mitchell recommending that John Lennon be deported. -------------- 1977: American Bandstand celebrated its 25th anniversary with a primetime special on ABC. Among the performers who appeared on the special included Gregg Allman, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Isaac Hayes, & Stevie Wonder. -------------- 1978: The Bee Gees started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with Staying Alive. From the film soundtrack Saturday Night Fever, it gave the brothers their fifth US No.1, also No.1 in the UK. -------------- 1978: Queen peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with “We Will Rock You”/”We Are the Champions” which was their second top ten single in the U.S. -------------- 1980: The Ramones released their fifth album End of the Century. The album was produced by Phil Spector & went on to become their highest charting album in the U.S. reaching number 44 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. -------------- 1984: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble opened their Couldnt Stand the Weather tour in Nashville, TN. -------------- 1989: Guns N’ Roses became the first act in 15 years to have two albums in the top five of the Billboard 200 Album Chart.
