Fed Researchers Optimistic on Long-Term Unemployment Drop Bloomberg Businessweek (07/21/14) Jeff Kearns Researchers at the U.S. Federal Reserve are optimistic about the strength of the labor market due to a sizable drop in long-term unemployment this year. In addition to the shrinking number of long-term unemployed people, there is more stability in the labor force participation rate and an increase in the ratio of employment to population. The jobless rate hit 6.1% last month, the lowest level in nearly six years and a benchmark Fed officials didnt expect to hit until the end of the year.
