Fed up with civic apathy, residents clean tank bed Bangalore:Some 300 residents of Vasanthapura and volunteers from other areas took the lead in preserving a 1000-yearold kalyani (temple tank) near Vasantha Vallabharaya Temple, off Uttarahalli,on Sunday. Frustrated with the apathy of civic officials, residents took matters into their own hands and cleaned the tank bed. They alleged that funds meant for rejuvenation of the tank have been used for construction of an arch near the temple. The Rs 1 crore allocated for the tanks revival has been misused. After repeated complaints,we got to know that the funds had been used to build an arch, said Phanisai Bhardwaj, managing trustee of Subrahmanyapura-Uttarahalli Neighbourhood Lakes Improvement Trust (SUNLIT). Residents accused the BBMP of deliberately not taking up the rejuvenation work as the tank bed can be used to lay an approach road.TNN
