Federal Election; Albert Electorate, Schools Speech Mr BOOTHMAN - TopicsExpress

Federal Election; Albert Electorate, Schools Speech Mr BOOTHMAN (Albert—LNP) (9.05 pm Wednesday 11th September): Firstly, I congratulate my federal LNP colleagues— Scott Buchholz, the member for Wright, Stuart Robert, the member for Fadden, and Bert van Manen, the giant slayer and member for Forde—on their recent electoral wins. In the words of Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott, ‘From today I declare Australia is under new management and is once more open for business.’ For small, medium and large business in and around the Albert electorate, this is music to their ears. They need a healthy business market that can expand to create much needed local jobs. The election commitment of axing the carbon tax will go a long way to reducing the overhead costs for businesses and the Tony Abbott led federal government’s commitment to reduce red tape will give business owners hope for a productive future and provide our future leaders with greater opportunities. When I have the honour of visiting my local schools, I see the greatest resource of all: the next generation. It is these members of our society who will reap the rewards of a stable and flourishing economy. I will work with my federal colleague the member for Forde in seeking federal funding for some very important infrastructure upgrades at exit 54 which will create an enormous number of jobs in the Upper Coomera and Coomera region. I look forward to a new era of economic growth with competent financial managers in Canberra. This will give Albert residents stability and the next generation hope for a brighter future. Speaking of the next generation, I attended the Gaven State School gala night where I witnessed some extremely good entertainment. One of the highlights of the night was the two masters of ceremony—Dillan Jenkins, who took on the persona of Daniel Craig, and Cassie Madsen, who took on the persona of Anne Hathaway. They did an incredible job. I look forward to seeing them host other events in the future. The gala showcased many performances from The Sound Of Music, Grease and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was a fun night and the families loved it. The principal got up and started dancing, too. I hope Principal Phillip Carleton does not take up a career on Broadway! We need him to continue working hard at Gaven State School.
