Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry 1 Exhibition of Literary Work on the Indian Diaspora at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2015 The Indian Diaspora has always played an important role in the growth and development of the country. Presently, people of Indian origin can be found in every nook and corner of the globe. The presence of the Indian Diaspora around the world gives India the mark of cultural difference, which is unique in the world. India and the diaspora mutually constitute one another, with the diaspora contributing substantially to the semantic load of culture. The Indian diaspora is a ready reckoner to the sense of globalism where the east and west penetrates into one another in numerous ways. Writers of the Indian diaspora have been fairly centre stage in the last decade primarily because of the theoretical formulations, which are now being generated by the critiquing of their work. Language and cultures are transformed as they come into contact with other languages and cultures. Diasporic writing raises questions regarding the definitions of home and nation. They showcase the juxtaposition of different lifestyles and the tradition of the country from where they have migrated. Such experiences have a broader consequence of intermingling globalism, where different diasporic nationalities come into direct contact and yet remain highly distinct. This is true of the role the Indian Diaspora plays in taking culture with itself, and settling that culture with modalities of modernism and globalism in far of lands. In order to showcase the achievements of the Indian Diaspora, the Government of India has decided to exhibit literary work on the diaspora at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2015 in the form of an exhibition of literary work on/by the Indian Diaspora. The collective exhibit of books and literary work aims to project and share the rich intellectual, cultural and technological landscape that the Indian Diaspora has achieved. It will also be a medium for disseminating knowledge of the work of the India Diaspora. The exhibition will highlight their contribution to the ever-expanding growth story of the country. The Government of India requests participation from authors and/or publishers who have been engaged with the work on/by the Indian Diaspora. These publications could be from the topics that are relevant to the political, economic, cultural, scientific landscape of India or of Indian abroad.
