Feds to invest millions in Mississauga OTTAWA – Ontarios hard-hit manufacturing sector will get a much-needed boost today when Ottawa unveiled a multimillion-dollar investment in Pratt & Whitney Canadas Mississauga facility, the Toronto Star has learned. The investment, to be unveiled in joint announcements in Ontario and Quebec, is expected to maintain and create at least 1,500 jobs at the aerospace firm and spur hiring at other companies in the supply chain. Industry Minister James Moore will make the announcement this morning at the firms Mississauga facility, where engineering, assembly and test work is done. Denis Lebel, the minister of infrastructure and communities, will also unveil the news at Pratt & Whitneys headquarters and manufacturing site in Longueuil, Que., which will also benefit from the federal investment. This is significant, a source familiar with the announcement told the Star on Sunday. The undisclosed investment is also expected to benefit a supply chain of about 65 firms. The spinoff benefits are quite substantial, the source said. Pratt & Whitney Canada, which employs 6,200 people in Canada, is a longtime manufacturer of turbine engines for private and commercial aircraft.
