Feeding an entire City of Berlin during the Blockade was in the hands of men, like Clancy, from the British, French and US Air Forces. Many died - so the others could live and enjoy the freedom of to-day. Thank you guys! ...........OF MEN AND MACHINES - SALUT TO A GREAT MAN! While standing in amazement viewing the accomplishment of men and women to aviation at the Greatest Air Show on earth , each year in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA, like this tank & troop-carrying aircraft, the C-5, we overlook the great men of past times, which in small steps, one at a time, made all this happen. Men like Captain Clancy! Yes, Captain Clancy Hess, that is. Now 93 years old, it sounds odd, Clancy recounting as he performed 1928, from a strip on a farm near Glenview, Illinois, his first solo flight. 10 years old. That when the obsession of flying began. This airstrip on a farm, is what later became the Glenview Naval Air Station. Clancy recounts the days flying for Collins Radio Co. - now NBC - which bought into the aircraft manufacturing industry. His collection of photos shows him in association with people in the 1920/1930th, who not only wrote history but made history. Mail carriers, air mail carriers that is. Men like Charles Lindbergh or Lauris Norstad, the first Nato Air Force Commander. His photo albums and news clippings, speak and radiate vividly, expressively aviation history from its days of dawn to the silhouette of the C-5, in which shadow Clancy and I stand, while leaning against the J-1. Once Clancy starts to talk about the tales of his flying past - everyone wishes he wouldnt stop! A C-5 Military Transport plane - ROOM FOR 1 TANK AND 75 MEN Col. Dough West, Captain Clency Hess and Werner Juretzko Its a great honor Clancy, to be friends! Model 1917 - J-1 training plane When Clansy speaks - everyone is listening! Standing- room only.
