Feeding the hard keeper... Ive never had one that was hard to keep weight on. Ive googled and have seen so many different responses. Looking for opinions, suggestions and even to see if I am on the right tract with what I am doing. This is my first winter with him. He is a QH and is 20. He is losing his top line and is ribby/hippy. Up to date on worming. Not showing any issues with his teeth. He is blanketed. Ive been slowly adjusting his diet and he seems to be maintaining, but not successfully gaining back what has been lost. I just recently adjusted (increased slightly) and this is what he is currently eating. Id like to know if I am on the right track. Roughly 6 flakes of hay (sometimes more, because we all seem to toss him more when we check on water throughout the day) 5 lbs Dumor 14% pelleted feed 3 lbs alfalfa pellets 4 oz Dumor weight booster 2 oz Cocosoya He is the only one in the barn and we will be adding a friend this weekend. Im hoping the extra body will help add warmth and maybe calm him if he was having stress from being alone.
