Feeding your senior dog 2 At what age does my dog become a senior dog? As a general rule of thumb, we tend to consider dogs over the age of 7 as senior. However, this can be affected by the size and breed of your dog. For example a small breed dog such as a Bichon Frise might not be considered a senior until they are perhaps 10 or 12 whereas a much larger breed such as a Bullmastiff might be a senior citizen at 5 or 6. Do I really need to change my dog’s food as he or she gets older? As our dogs become older, their health and their stamina can start to decline.
