Feel the need to rant today.. I often wonder why it’s so - TopicsExpress

Feel the need to rant today.. I often wonder why it’s so difficult for people to talk about sadness or depression. That we are so turned off by honesty and vulnerability..and that in this beautiful but severely troubled world that it is hard to imagine why so many of us are struggling. Depression is real, it is an illness like any other, it is incredibly painful and is most often NOT a choice. We do have the choice to treat it, to accept it, to work at it, to talk about it. So sad that many of us feel like we need to hide it from our community..from even our closest friends and family. Robin Williams was such a tremendous gift to humanity and brought so much joy and laughter into so many of our lives. Many people who suffer from severe depression or other mental illnesses are often just as brilliant, compassionate and hilarious as him. Unfortunately many of them are are so completely blinded by the darkness, that the light they shine only moves outward and is rarely allowed to be reflected back onto themselves. Feeling so deeply and so completely is an incredible gift as well as a burden. I honor and respect Robin Williams as a comedian and artist immensely..and I respect his struggle just as much..I can only imagine how hard he fought. While I am grieving his loss..I am also grateful to him for giving us all the opportunity to try to truly understand and accept the realness of severe depression as well as suicide. I wish with all of my heart that people who are experiencing such pain could be more honest when asked “how’s it going?” and that when people ask that question that a space would be made for an answer like “actually..not so good”. That we could all be encouraged to be authentic while expressing ourselves rather than project false positivity. In some cases, feeling comfortable enough to be honest could relieve someone of an immense amount of pain and could even save their life. One should never feel ashamed to reach out or to simply let their community know that they are struggling. If somebody you know is suffering from depression..you should take it seriously and take the time to ask them how they are doing, if there is any way that you can be more supportive or helpful and remind them of how loved they are..remind them of how beautiful and precious they are. If you are suffering from depression please take it seriously and ask for help. You deserve to be happy..you deserve to feel that light. Friends and family. I am always here for you. Always. This scene brought tears to my eyes as a kid..and is doing the same for me now. RIP Robin Williams, the joy and laughter you brought into all of our lives is eternal. https://youtube/watch?v=6s8ZEFUSYAI
