Feeling conflicted about a NXNE talk I just saw by Not Impossible Labs. It seems that the disability rights movement is most undermined by the desires of so many of the disabled to leave the margins that the rest of us defined and put them on. They claim they want to lead a better, so-called “quality of life”, only because the systems we created never took their way of living into consideration in the first place. And all these engineers and coders feel so great about turning them into The Borg, in having a hand in making them more "normal", more like us via technology - but they need to be reminded that their efforts (regardless of good intentions) contribute to telling the disabled that their way of being in the world, disabled, is not OK.
