Feeling crushed this morning. Met with our principal about the no - TopicsExpress

Feeling crushed this morning. Met with our principal about the no food birthday policy and got completely roadblocked...then thrown a small bone. Or at least thats what it felt like. I dont want you to feel discouraged, is a bit of an empty sentiment, although I do appreciate the gesture. :( I wont have any sort of forum in which to present my idea to parents, teachers, or anyone other than the principal. Were taking some baby steps and doing a small scale experiment with just 3 teachers from now until the end of the year: sending all birthday treats home in baggies. IF that would actually happen with 100% compliance in an entire school, it would at least allow parents to be more involved in their kids food choices and remove the intense social pressure that kids who shouldnt/cant/have been asked not to eat the cupcakes feel when everyone else is enjoying the celebration and they have to say, No thank you. I know baby steps are good - but this is a hard pill to swallow! Now I cant decide if todays post should be a recap of the practically political ugliness that happens when people try to pry birthday cupcakes from the stubborn fingers of elementary childrens parents, or the original plan: Cancer week, sharing what my family is doing to give my dad his best chance of kicking cancer and enduring chemo nearly side effect free. Any votes one way or the other? My blood pressure has to be through the roof after that 90-minute tete-a-tete!
