Feeling pretty hacked off.tonight. For years I have fought for tenants rights within my landlord organisation, tried to the best of my ability to represent the views of tenants advise them on issues that affect them and have helped develop a raft of involvement mechanisms for residents to help improve the service they receive. Now it seems that my landlord is closing down all of these mechanisms, such as tenant associations and Federations, dismissing residents from its various Boards, removing them from scrutiny panels and has now shut down the staff section responsible for resident involvement, made our one remaining Community Development Manager redundant, and have appointed senior staff to positions on the organisations various Boards. Resources for resident involvement are minimal at best, and now it turns out that my landlord does not need its residents to tell them how well or otherwise they are doing as they will scrutinise THEMSELVES. I for one am not going without a fight. If there are RSL landlords out there who genuinely care about resident involvement and are as worried as I about the dissolution of the tenant movement, please join a growing band of us who propose to fight the rot. We have worked long and hard to put tenants on an equal footing with corporate , landlords and we are not prepared to quietly step aside and watch our hard fought rights torn down. What our landlord gets away with today will be what your landlord gets away with tomorrow. Join us?
