Feeling totally deflated! For those that want to know, my first year in a start up business has been full of unpleasant surprises and heaps of rejection. Trying to contact people in the dog related industry has been worse than applying for jobs. Hardly anyone responds, knocking on closed doors everywhere. The wholesale want to put such huge mark ups on my dog house that it either puts it out of reach for people, or I have to give it to them for less than I pay my manufacturer for it. Not to mention freight and storage charges, tooling costs etc... I also have trouble getting the message across that what I am offering is protection from heat stroke, not just another commercial dog kennel. I was particularly disappointed that the animal rescue network did not get behind me on this. If we cant convince people that live in big new homes with small back yards that there is a way for them to still have a family dog, the number of dog adopters and foster carers will diminish, slowly but surely. So many dogs are being surrendered due to owner moving. On the up side, there has been a handful of people I have never met, offering great support and admiration for my product and its purpose. Although it is very hard to keep my spirits up when against so much disappointment, I am still very proud of my accomplishment. It is a work of art and it serves a very necessary purpose. Heat waves are not going to go away and, in my mind, a water cooled dog house is essential to protect a dogs life. So, even if this turns out to be a financial disaster, I will always be proud that I followed up on an idea that was important to me as a dog lover. But, I can sure relate to how Altiyan feels.
