Feeling very heartbroken today. We lost our young araucana x wyandotte hen today. She wouldnt have been much over a year old. My partner had been out only 5 minutes before I went out to collect the eggs and had seen her stratching around and eating, looking happy and healthy. Then I go out to find shed passed in that time. We imagine it was probably something like a stroke... Ive owned chickens for just a few years now. Out of the 18 chickens weve had, Smokey is the 3rd girl weve lost, 2 to natural causes and I think 1 to disease. All of our girls are completely a part of the family, so were feeling pretty devastated. Im not looking forward to the headcounts for the next little while and realising theres no longer 16... :(
