Feit NWOBHM skýrzla. Hápunktar. Girlschool mjög skemmtilegt og Grim Reaper algjör snilld, en alls ekki á þeim forsendum sem bandið hefði viljað hafa haft það. Pagan Altar toppar allt hérna. Viðgjöf takk Málmhausar! *** Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (1980) ---Horny, eager and rocking. Very promising but gives little about the world conquering act that Iron Maiden were to be. But make no mistake, a very good album. Iron Maiden - Killers (1981) ---Tighter, more professional and all around impressive affair. There are inconsistencies but you cant help be enamoured by the leap the band has taken. Side 2 especially rocks. DiAnno is a bit annoying, though he has his charms as well. Its clear by this album that Maiden were the leaders of the scene but lo and behold, Im clearly a Dickinson man! Cloven Hoof - Cloven Hoof (1984) ---The singer is a little bit incompetent, the music a very rocking NWOBHM and Manowar style hero-rock hybrid. Enjoyable but not remarkable. Pagan Altar - Volume 1 (1998) (A highly sought after demo from 1982) ---This is awesome! Brilliant post-doom a la Sabbath and forerunner to the doom revival. Excellent songs, well played and just concise and believable. But its unbelievable that this lot didnt get signed at the time. Girlschool - Demolition (1980) ---Motorhead influenced, no frills rocknroll. Smooth in its delivery (I dont want to say cute), catchy and engaging. I like this! Girlschool - Hit and Run (1981) ---Harder and crunchier. Less melodic but lovable all the same. No nonsense rocking out! Tokyo Blade - Tokyo Blade (1983) ---Great, rocking songs, reminiscent of Saxon and Maiden. Highly unpolished, endearingly terrible singer and raw instrumentation. A great material to built on, but they blew it. Tokyo Blade - Night of the Blade (1984) ---Humdrum cock rock leanings, better singer but boring. The lyrics are beyond bad and a shame that the band found the need to moonlight like that. Grim Reaper - See You in Hell (1983) ---This is beautiful. Raw, over the top unimaginative hero-metal that rocks but you cant hide the smile while listening. Pure fun, although maybe not intended as such. Grim Reaper - Fear No Evil (1985) ---More of the same. A little more polished, but not as good songs and the naive charm is inevitably gone. Elixir - The Son of Odin (1986) ---Nicely structured songs, everything in place somehow, if a little neat and lumbering. Indeed, a very professional effort that seems to be its blessing and curse. And, to late in the game sadly.
