Felix Ubuah-led Rivers PDP Expels 18 Amaechi’s Aides The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, yesterday, announced the expulsion of 18 top officials of the administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi from the party over what it described as anti-party activities. The suspension of the top officials, including the secretary to the state government (SSG), Mr George Feyii, the chief of staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Hon. Tony Okocha and the immediate past national deputy chairman of the PDP, Dr. Sam Sam-Jaja, came barely 30 minutes after the Membership Performance Evaluation Committee submitted its report to the party’s leadership in the state. Chairman of the PDP in the state, Hon. Felix Amechi Obuah, who announced the expulsion to newsmen at the party headquarters in Port Harcourt, said that the action followed the recommendations of the Membership Performance Evaluation and Disciplinary committees of the party. Others expelled by the Obuah-led PDP were the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Wogu Boms; Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari; Commissioner for Works, Chief Victor Giadom; Commissioner for Power, Hon. Augustine Wokocha and the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon. Joe Philip Poroma. But the state government has described the expulsion of its top officials as sub judice, and pointed out that it had already approached a Port Harcourt High Court to stop the exercise before the leadership of the party made the announcement. They also include; the Commissioners for Lands and Survey, Mr. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi; Sport, Hon. Fred Igwe; Agriculture, Hon. Emmanuel Chinda; Women Affairs, Mrs. Joeba West; Water Resources and Rural Development, Mrs. Patricia Simon-Hart and Energy and Natural Resources, Hon. Okey Amadi. Affected by the expulsion also were; the Commissioners for Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Charles Okaye; Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nabbs Imegbu and Local Government Affairs, Mr. Samuel Eyiba, as well the Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA), Mr. Aleruchi Cookey-Gam. Reacting to the development, the chief of staff, Government House, Tony Okocha, said the PDP could not expel them when they already have an order of the court to serve it at its national secretariat in Abuja and the state secretariat in Port Harcourt over the matter. Okocha said; “To me, our purported suspension by the Obuah-led faction of the PDP is a comic relief. I said so because, first and foremost, they are supposed to know that the matter is sub judice. This morning, our lawyers called me to say that there is a Court order to serve PDP here and in Abuja on the same, “I hear part of what they said too is that 14 of us have been expelled while eight are still there. I challenge them to make public the names of eight commissioners who sent to them written reports or who appeared before them. If there is none, then, they should also tell the world the yardstick used to expel 14, and then leave eight behind.” He said the plot behind the purported expulsion was to enable the Obuah-led PDP to put in fake names as delegates from the state in the forthcoming national mini-convention of the ruling party in Abuja
