Fellow Accraists, I greet you in the name of our ancestors, - TopicsExpress

Fellow Accraists, I greet you in the name of our ancestors, those who laboured to make Accra a great and clean city, until the current filth. It’s a tall list of ancestors. They fought hard to liberate this city. Unfortunately, those after them have let the city down. It is now a beehive of filth and notorious vehicular traffic. But I’m determined to change that. The Millennium City Project is still on the table. I’m waiting for the cash to get it started. When will that happen? I have no idea. The guys at Flagpole insist there is no money and yet ordinary staffers drive around in flashy cars - they are living the life of Arabian kings. And that is what I call Better Ghana. Prior to assuming power in 2009, the NDC party, then led by Professor John Mills, promised a Better Ghana. I don’t intend to bore you with recollection of the many things we promised, but I have no shred of doubt we’ve missed anything. Since coming to power, the fortunes of majority of our ordinary people have changed. People are better off today than they were under the elephant’s regime. Here in Accra alone, the high rise building around places including Airport, Cantonment, Labone and High Streets, are indications of the Better Ghana we promised. I’m yet to have the statistics but more than 70 per cent of residents in Accra are living way above the dollar a day. Even the ordinary person struggling to pay his or her rent is living way better than five or so years ago. About three weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet some workers in my area who told me their salaries have been quadrupled by their employers due to the economic boom. And these are ordinary teachers who, before we assumed office, were unable to rent a single bedroom in the shanty area of Dome Pillar Two. Their lives have changed. They’ve not only moved out of the shanty area but each has built for himself three bedrooms. And these are ordinary teachers. I’m not going to talk about the security man who now earns about One Thousand Ghana Cedis as a basic pay. He has even married another woman to join his matrimonial home. Isn’t this a fulfilment of the Better Ghana Agenda we promised? Money indeed swine! Look at how we generously dissipated the Gyeeda money to a selected few in this country. I don’t intend to go into the details but one man who has reaped from the Gyeeda bonanza is that guy, Tabsoba. For those who knew him before we came to power, he was an ordinary second hand dealer in electronic wares in Kumasi. He struggled to feed and even money to buy medicine to kill himself was difficult to come by. But under this regime, he’s builtfor himself three houses in Kumasi, two in the North. As for the cars and the women, one cannot count them. Who would have thought that a chap with greasy teeth could be able to attract as many girls as he now commands? He is an example of the Better Ghana we promised. And where does he live? Here in Accra. I don’t intend to talk about myself and the wealth I have accumulated. Life is better under this dispensation and the promise to create more than three million jobs in Accra is still on course. Until then, enjoy the filth! Yours faithfully, Mayor Abodwes3
