Fellow Authors, What is the most painful part of finalizing your book and making it ready for publishing? For me, it’s the editing process. I consider myself fairly competent when it comes to spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage. When you finish the first draft of a 70,000+ word novel, however, it is torturous and tedious to go back through that work ensuring that every comma is inside of the quotation marks. This is one of the great things that a competent editor brings to your work. They follow you on your writing journey cleaning up the mess that you leave behind so that your work is presentable to your readers. In my case, I am very lucky to have an editor, Catherine Violando, who is an avid reader. She is able to look at my work and ask me hard questions about what my characters do and say. She also looks at the situations that my characters get into and the actions that they take and puts me through a reality check. Catherine researches the latest trends in writing and is always providing me with things to think about. I feel like the quality of my work has improved immensely because of the work that she does. If you have an editor that has done similar things for you, give them some credit. Recognize what they do and the value they provide to you. If you DO NOT have an editor, or you are not happy with the one that you have, feel free to reach out to Catherine Violando directly through her email, catherineviolando@gmail
