Fellow Metalheads: How to get a decent tone (or how to not get a bad tone): We know that distortion is metal. Its what makes metal metal. In order to achieve distortion, you need to add gain. Now, we all love gain as metalheads, because it sounds metal, but recently, Ive been noticing something. People are using more and more gain in there tones. Now, theres such a thing as TOO much gain. Let me explain: Amps often have 3 main settings: Gain/Drive Treble Bass Alot of metalheads use high gain and bass. Its what kicks the amp into natural distortion (or what pedals use to make the amp distorted). The treble is often left lower than the bass or balanced with the bass. BUUUUT, What you dont realize is that Gain adds extra treble. The more gain = more treble. Often, if the treble exceeds the bass you get a horrible, muddy, buzzy sound. And if your pickups are powerful then there gonna be pretty trebly. And additional gain from a pedal can sometimes overmodulate the speaker too also contribute to the buzzy sharp tone. So try not to keep the gain too high unless you can balance the bass and treble acceptably. This is more aimed at the people using the budget / mid range gear. Using this information can help you enjoy cheaper gear more. Get what Im saying? I hope it helps. Rock on \m/
