Fellow Ogonis, The Executive Council of MOSOP USA would like to use this medium to invite all Ogonis in the Continental USA to an unprecedented conference of Ogonis from home and in the Diaspora scheduled to hold as follows: August 22-24, in Atlanta Georgia. The challenges for which our heroes and scores of our people died for still persist, still lingers on. Its our hope that such a gathering will offer us all the opportunity to collectively strategize on how to address our tortured circumstance. The conference will focus on the following pressing issues: BORI STATE: Its common knowledge, by now, that Bori State was conveniently omitted from the States recommended to be created. This speaks directly to our valid claim of political marginalization as contained in the Ogoni Bill OF Rights (OBR). Its this administrations desire the conference would provide us the avenue to reason together as a people and fashion out a realistic and sustainable plan of action. OGONI ON OGONI KILLINGS: Its saddening to watch our young men continue to kill each other when the impact of the environmental terrorism unleashed upon us by Shell still renders us an endangered specie. This administration is afraid that if this senselessness is not contained, as a matter of urgency, it will only get worse with time. Its morally imperative we arrest this ugly development. UNEP REPORT: Submitted nearly three years ago, the recommendation that the environmental mess created by Shell be cleaned up has not been implemented. We can not fold our hands and watch idly by while our people back home continue to suffer and die from environmental pollution related diseases. The time to act is now. PROJECT 2015: Since the creation of Rivers State in 1967, Ogoni has not produced a Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly and the Chief Judge. These are the most influential positions in any state. This, again, speaks to the political marginalization of the Ogoni people. Our leaders should and, must not die in vain. Lets all seize the moment and collectively and respectfully demand what is rightfully ours. Brothers and sisters, the upcoming conference is not about any one individual or political party. Its imperative for us to realize that no one can solve our problems but ourselves. Its also important to know that a house divided against itself can not stand. This conference offers a unique opportunity for us to resolve any and all lingering grievances. Please, consider this a noble cause for which you are all morally summoned. See you all in Atlanta. Thank you and God bless Hon Michael Akoka Secretary General MOSOP USA
