Fellow PCC lancers, I am writing to inform you of the disservice - TopicsExpress

Fellow PCC lancers, I am writing to inform you of the disservice being done to your school and to you as individual students. Our schools accreditation process has been a long and arduous one, with members of the faculty, administration, and student government working hard to ensure that we complete it in time. Accreditation is the process by which all higher education institutions, such as UC’s, Cal States and Community Colleges get recognized to be a public institution. This also allows for your classes and the degrees you get to be valid because we are an accredited school. Despite the efforts of these groups, a handful of individuals - including Academic Senate President Eduardo Cairo has refused to sign off on the completed document stating that ample time was not given to look over the document. The self-evaluation draft was made public on September 15th, 2014. This allowed for the public to review the document and raise any concerns with it. This was also the time that all shared governance bodies on campus got it to make any comments about the document, including the Academic Senate. The process accommodated private meetings for these faculty members and part of the Academic Senate, both outside of PCC as well as in the committee meetings. This has happened before, but until students at PCC decide to take a stand and show that they are willing to get involved in matters that affect them, we will continue to see the needs of the students disregarded. Therefore, what YOU can do as students is to get a dialogue going with your peers, your professors, and other faculty about the need to get this document signed. There is also a meeting tomorrow at 10AM in the Creveling Lounge, where we as your student leaders will be speaking to urge a signature on the accreditation papers. PLEASE, show up to show your support and genuine willingness to get involved for OUR education.
