Fellow Students, Good morning! The functions of the Legislative - TopicsExpress

Fellow Students, Good morning! The functions of the Legislative arm of government is to make Laws for the smooth running of the government. Carry out oversight functions (Probe, Investigation and monitoring) This is geared towards checkmating the excesses of either the Judiciary or the Executive arms. Presently we have 360 members at the 7th National Assembly and 109 at the Senate. From 2011 till date, the National Assembly have passed few laws, amended few existing laws. What this shows is that the act of sponsoring a bill that will pass through all processes to become law is a strenuous one. Presently, we have the biggest and most beneficial bill ever to come out of Anambra State at the National Assembly. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Bill. This bill was sponsored by Honourable Chriscato Ikechukwu Ameke. First What is an NDDC Bill? It is the bill that will recognise Anambra State as a member of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and accord such all the privileges that is accorded to all oil producing states in Nigeria. It is the Bill that will catapult us into the league of high receiver States like Rivers, Abia, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and others. It is the bill that will push Anambra State upward in the sharing of the monthly federal allocation from the federation account. If and when this bill is signed into Law, Anambra state has the potential to receive double its current allocation. Our local government that has been receiving between 70-80 million monthly will have the potential of receiving above 300 to 400 million Naira monthly. Also, Anambra State will have to share in the projects from Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Thirdly, we will collect Ecological funds based on our new statue as an NDDC recognised state. My brothers, I want us to really understand the meaning of this NDDC bill sponsored by our son! It is important to inform our people that the bill has been gazetted and has passed first reading at the floor of the National Assembly. It is been delayed for second reading due to the boundary adjustments between Kogi and Anambra State. This is the area our brother is showing the leadership qualities in him. Knowing fully well the interest of other northern states in making sure that Kogi is pronounced an oil producing state as well, our brother is using diplomacy and the highest level of maturity in making sure that we do not incur the wrath of other northern states. Mind you the speaker of the house is a core northerner and the north has majority in the lower house. Any move they see as an offensive move kills whatever that is not planned well. To Anambra State, this is the toughest bill and the most important to the state in general. It has the potential to turn Anambra State into the Taiwan of South East. Divinely, our brother is the governor. divinely we have an indigenous oil company (ORIENT PETROLUEUM ) managing our oil. Let our people appreciate our own. Obahiagboninsing by our Brother at the floor of the National Assembly will get us to nowhere. What is needed are deft manoeuvrings at Committee meetings, behind the scene lobbying for the NNDC bill sponsored by Hon. Chriscato Ameke which has gone through fist reading and is presently at the Committee level to sail through. Lobbying to make sure that the result of the on going Boundary adjustment already going on is in our favour. our brother is doing wonderfully well. A man who is still fighting the most brutal legal battle for the soul of Anambra East/ West constituency. A man divinely chosen by God Almighty to be there because if not God, the evil forces against Hon. Chriscato would have removed him from the seat. What our brother is doing is PURE representation at its best. Distraction will make him loose focus and focus he needs 100% in this war of recognition as an NDDC state.Let us do away with distraction now and rally round him for the overall interest of Aguleri and Anambra State. I do not think we need a new man there who will go and start learning the politics in the house as a freshman. Our people has to understand that seniority and ranking is very important in the National Assembly. No new member becomes the speaker, deputy speaker or chair committees at the National Assembly. Enugu state readily comes to mind when we want to talk continuity. Let us do away with personal interest, greed and confusion. It will not help Aguleri and Anambra State. Honourable Chriscato Ikechukwu Ameke has gone through a lot of refining as Gold goes through furnace and he has come out tested and can be trusted. Continuity is the key to more infrastructural and human development of our people. Let us be wise!! Thank you and God bless you all. George Udedibia. Student at National Open University.
