Fellow students, Attention Electrical Design 2 students and - TopicsExpress

Fellow students, Attention Electrical Design 2 students and students in general, A complaint was raised by a class representative to the effect that the Duly Performed (DP) marks had not been released at the time of the exam but you were expected to write the exams. Furthermore you (as Electrical design 2 students) were expected to write the supplementary exams on Friday the 21st of November 2014 (tomorrow) without knowing whether you were suppose to write a supp. or you have passed. The SRC took it upon itself to engage the relevant people and the results came out as of yesterday; furthermore the supplementary exams will now be written on the 26th of November 2014. For more information, please contact the course administrators. As the SRC, we note the tendency that the Engineering cohort has showed towards students and wish to put it on record that this will never happen again. We also plead with fellow students to inform us of any injustice that they face on our campus and we will champion it. Student Residence Affairs On the 14th of November 2014, the Department of Student Residence Affairs (DSRA) convened a meeting with the Howard College and Medical School SRCs to discuss the departments proposed changes and how it is going to affect students. Amongst the things discussed was how the Department has already superseded the council approved beds of 12 000 and they are sitting on a deficit of +- R779 000 at Howard College alone; further they are going to be implementing placement changes motivated by academic achievements. As the SRC (both from Howard College & Medical school), we rejected all the changes that were counter to students because we believe we must not be made to pay for things we have not enjoyed nor received. The SRC does not believe that it makes sense that the University continues to increase intake, which benefits them financially, but we still lack the basic support staff such as tutors, academic mentors, adequate LAN’s, residences, security, leisure areas, accessibility for the disabled and sports facilities to mention but a few. The SRC believes that these proposed academic based residence allocations are nothing more than a neo-group areas act which can never be allowed in this day and age. DSRA further spoke of a secondary plan of availing Howard College based accommodation to Medical students should they fail to acquire residences for the 2015 year; this the SRC REJECTED with the contempt it deserves because we can never be divided as students based on accommodation and we believe under our watch we will never allow for a neo-bantu stands based on professions. The SRC made it clear to DSRA that they should not think the SRC will allow any Howard College student to be moved without a fight. “United we stand, divided we fall.” Currently the SRC is crafting means of combating injustices and wish to put it on record that we are your SRC; we are here to work for you! Aluta continua.
