Fellowships Institute of Asia Pacific Studies Visiting Fellows (Malaysia) The Institute of Asia Pacific Studies at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, invites applications from scholars working on aspects of Asia that connect with the Institute’s theme of New Asian Publics. The theme of New Asian Publics includes the economics of welfare and claim-making (and more, including human security); the politics of representation and social protest (and more); the cultural constitution of citizenship and identity (and more) and the ideas, technologies and actions that bring publics into being. Applications outside of this theme are welcome, but intending applicants should contact the Institute’s Director, Associate Professor Michael Connors, prior to submission. Applications are especially invited from scholars working in Southeast Asia who wish to use the fellowship to complete a journal article for publication. Applications based on co-authorship with a Nottingham academic are also welcome. We also welcome applications from scholars who have not yet published in English but who have made a recognised contribution to scholarship in their home country. Assistance with English language publication may be offered. Any resulting publications will acknowledge affiliation with IAPS, University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. Successful applicants will also be asked to present a seminar. Resources and Support IAPS will provide access to a shared office either at our Kuala Lumpur city campus or our Semenyih campus. Internet access will be available. Modest financial support is also available to cover budget accommodation for 4 to 8 weeks and travel to Kuala Lumpur from anywhere in Southeast Asia. A small living allowance of up to RM3,000 may be available upon application, but it is expected applicants will already be in university or institutional employment elsewhere. Applications should be sent by email to [email protected] An application should consist of a two page research and publication proposal and a CV and the name of two referees willing to comment on your scholarly work. Applications close 31 March 2015 (for July-December fellows). It is expected two fellows will be appointed in 2014-2015 academic year. Decisions will be made by the IAPS Board. Research associates Applicants are invited from interested scholars to become Research Associates of IAPS, Malaysia. Associates will be entitled to access computer facilities in a joint office space or computer cluster at our Semenyih campus or our Kuala Lumpur campus. Normally Research Associates are expected to present a guest lecture or seminar presentation and to maintain an on-going relationship with the University of Nottingham.
