Female pastor converts to Islam after Dr Zakir Naiks lecture in Gambia Friday October 24, 2014 3:21 PM, Agencies 8 Kololi (Gambia): A 54-year-old female pastor Wednesday evening converted to Islam less than 24 hours after Dr. Zakir Naik, a renowned Islamic scholar and expert in comparative religion, delivered his fourth and final lecture at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Kololi, The Gambia. Juliet Cole, now Haddijatou Cole, is a Gambian and had served for 14 years as a pastor. She made the pronouncement before a dozens of top Gambian clerics and Cabinet ministers during a dinner hosted in honour of Dr. Zakir Naik, according to a report published by The Daily Observer. Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the event, Cole, who said she has a strong Muslim background, remarked: I have been ordinary pastor for seven years and ordained pastor for another seven years with the Methodist Church. During Dr Zakir Naiks [final] lecture at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, conversion came to my mind and I was convinced to accept Islam. From today I am a Muslim. Dr Zakir Naik later took to the podium to administer the protocols for conversion to Islam, before eventually pronouncing that the former pastor is now a Muslim. Meanwhile, The Imam of State House Mosque in Banjul described Dr. Zakir Naik, as a man of peace, who in all his sermons preached peace, and portrayed Islam as a faith of peace. He said the international orator, founder of the Peace TV and Islamic Research Foundation, had during his stay in the country enjoined the Muslim Ummah to be always peaceful and united for the religion. Speaking to the Daily Observer Sunday in an interview, Fatty, who chairs the Dawah Committee of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), affirmed that Naik is a man of knowledge who believes in Holy Quran, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Hadith. The Gambia, often called simply Gambia, is a country in West Africa. It is surrounded by Senegal, apart from a short strip of Atlantic coastline at its western end. It is the smallest country on mainland Africa. Islam is the predominant religion, practised by approximately ninety percent of the countrys population. The majority of the Muslims in the Gambia adhere to Sunni laws. The Christian community represents about eight percent of the population.
