Femke van Delft gave me the letter G. I have to post a song by a band or singer starting with this letter and a thesis of why I chose it. I chose the Canadian icon Gordon Lightfoots song...ummm...Lightfeets song? No, Gordon Lightfoot, Early Morning Rain. This song was released the year I was born. As a child raised on CBC television and radio this song brings me back to the feeling of home and family. I was born in Prince Rupert and Prince Rupert knows rain. Personally I love what this song evokes. Music sings to my soul. I have a soundtrack to my life so this process was a difficult one. I have 10 000 songs on my iPod - everything from Traditional gospel to Gregorian chants to electro funk to Inuit throat music. I have this in several different languages. I spent 10 years being a bad musician. I am not being humble. I wasnt great. But I loved music and appreciate all genres and eras. This song specifically reminds me of being home alone with my mom before I started kindergarten. Wed sing our hearts out to music we liked. Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Tommy Hunter, The Irish Rovers, The Stampeders, The Poppy Family, The Guess Who, and Frank Mills to name a few.
