Fenton attorney Steven Shelton has been named as one of the top lawyers in the state of Michigan by Super Lawyers, an annual publication from Thomson Reuters. Shelton, who is the managing attorney at Shelton Legal Services, PLLC in Fenton, was named a “Rising Star” by the publication for the two prior years. To be included in the list of “Super Lawyers”, an attorney must be nominated by other attorneys and is evaluated on the basis of professional achievement and reputation in the following areas: verdicts and settlements; transactions; representative clients; experience; honors and awards; special licenses and certifications; position within law firm; bar and or other professional activity; pro bono and community service as a lawyer; scholarly lectures and writings; education and employment background; and other outstanding achievements. Less than 5% of attorneys in the state are included in the “Super Lawyers” list. “It is very humbling to be honored by my colleagues,” Shelton said. “I work hard for my clients, and they are always first and foremost in my mind, but it is nice to know that my efforts are also recognized by people other than those I represent.” Shelton primarily practices criminal defense, but also practices civil litigation and appellate law.
