Fergus C. Lane Nuremore Golf To say that Cathal OGorman was - TopicsExpress

Fergus C. Lane Nuremore Golf To say that Cathal OGorman was over the moon on Sunday evening would be to completely understate the situation. Just when he thought he had completed an excellent job as Captain for 2013 along came a victory that was thrilling because it was so unexpected. Cathal has been playing exquisite golf for a while now, aided no doubt by the frequent lessons from Connor Breen, but just when the victory cup is in his grasp he lets it slip. He definitely has all the shots and there is no one I know who is more knowledgeable in the theory but Cathals big drawback, like most of us, is his inconsistency. He can send a ball 250 yards in full flight with a three wood, he can chip like Phil Mickelson and put like God himself but he finds it difficult to string all these great shots together. On Sunday evening he was having a great time until he came to the 15th. With two splendid shots he was 50 yards from the par five green in two only to walk off with a miserable six. That would have upset the Cathal of old but he did not let it bother him this time. On the short 16th he pulled his tee-shot just over the bunker on the left and magnificently chipped it off the bank down to three feet and sank the putt. On 17 the adrenalin was really flowing and he sent his wedge straight over the flag to the rough at the back of the green. Usually this is no mans land but once again he magically chipped and putted for his par. On the final hole his three wood took him almost to the top of the hill and from there he pulled a six iron into the bunker on the left. His playing partners were expecting the wigs to start growing on the green but once again the new and becalmed Cathal chipped and putted for par and a magnificent 44 points. Well done and what an appropriate end to your year as Captain. Cathal needed all of those points as Brendan Power was carving out a great score of 42 points for himself. Playing off 11 this represented a brilliant 5 over par gross score. In the prevailing conditions this was excellent but out on the course Andrew Carolan was waltzing around in 2 over gross for 40 points. Both of these magnificent golfers had to bend the knee to the captain on the day but their excellence forebodes well for Nuremore in 2014. Every member is aware by now of the AGM on Sunday evening at 5.00 pm. This is your chance to air any grievance you may have or indeed to lavish praise where you think it should be lavished. It is always nice to see a vibrant AGM so this is your chance to make our next fifty years as enjoyable as the fifty just gone.
