Ferguson, MO Grand Jury decides NOT to indict Police Officer - TopicsExpress

Ferguson, MO Grand Jury decides NOT to indict Police Officer Darren Wilson on any charges in the shooting death of Michael Brown. More to follow.... The following column that appeared on the Lady Grey page sums it up nicely (or not so nicely), and asks some interesting questions. What the Checkerboard Gang doesnt understand is that, even if you dont agree with a decision by a governmental body, here the Fugerson, MO Grand Jury, why burn and loot your own neighborhood? What does this accomplish in the long run? It is YOUR neighborhood that you are destroying, not the Mans. Something about this just doesnt make sense. Was the rioting and destruction in Ferguson, and elsewhere, as speculated by Lady Grey in her column, truly orchestrated, perhaps by people that didnt even live in Ferguson? Lady Grey: And this grey morning, I have the same sick sense of despair that I did when I went to bed. Was I surprised by the outcome of the Grand Jury? Not at all. Did I hold out hope that I would be surprised? Not really. I *did* hope that the assembled crowds would not turn violent, but in all honesty, it feels like it was orchestrated -- and not by the residents of Ferguson -- like it was all planned to get the biggest bang for the buck. Why start urging calm last week, days before the decision was announced? Why declare a state of emergency before anything had even happened? Why drag the waiting through the weekend? Why drag the waiting through the day? Why not make the announcement in broad daylight, when its easier to see clearly and act rationally? Why wait until the evening, if not to give the crowds more time to gather, more time to grow restless, more time to smolder? Why wait until 8 pm, if not to ensure that there would be a huge t.v. audience at home? Why wait until nighttime, if not to make things darker and shadowier and scarier and more intimidating? Why wait until nighttime, if not to create a setting for more dramatic photographs? Why wait until nighttime, if not to make it easier for those who want to create problems do so with relative anonymity? Everything was scripted, everything was planned, and everything happened just as the choreographers hoped it would. All the blame will fall on Ferguson itself; all the racial stereotypes will be vindicated; all the police brutality will be justified. The militarization of law enforcement will continue; the vilification of the poor will continue. Darren Wilson will walk away a wealthy man; Michael Browns name will be forgotten among those that come after his. And the cycle of distrust, fear, and violence will remain unbroken. ~ Lady Grey
