Festival Road race footage from Portsmouth Drive, possibly 1994. I think this was the last year that it was held on this circuit due to pressure from the local retailers as well as closing a high usage road. As the circuit moved two more times over the years it became harder and harder to organise. Public acceptance of events like these was polarised along with 7 day trading and much tighter health and safety meant it all became too hard for the volunteers to run. I recall Pat Acheson putting a 70 plus page document on circuit safety on the table at a meeting and telling us we had to read it and meet all the requirements, kind of takes the fun out of it. This clip is mainly of the buckets, back in their peak, man look at them all! They may have been largely under powered crappers but many of the riders went on to race in other classes, oh ... and they were fun.
