Festival to benefit local animal rescue sanctuary By Lisa Rodgers Reporter CAPRON - Another Chance Animal Sanctuary (ACAS) began its efforts assisting abandoned and neglected animals in Boone County in Aug. 2012. Their primary focus is on animals that local animal controls do not have the housing units for. The newest animal rescues in Boone County, their efforts are directed towards hooved animals and cats but are not limited to just these animals. Saturday June 21 the 1st Hooves, Hounds, and Meows Festival will be held at the Boone County Fairgrounds from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance is at Gate 2 off of Route 76 and there is a $2.00 admission donation at the gate. “We are hosting our very first fundraiser ‘Hooves, Hounds, and Meows Festival’ since we began. To date we have taken in over 20 rescues and over 300 cats and adopted out many to new homes. The cats are mostly from Boone County cat hoarding cases.” said founder and president Jacqui Mitzelfelt “Currently ACAS has three horses, two miniature horses, four goats, one peacock, one potbelly pig, several chickens and roosters and over 50 barn cats that are housed in various barn cat relocations and foster homes that we have in Boone and McHenry Counties. All the rescues have come from Boone County as strays or from neglect cases.” Mitzelfelt explained. “Our licensed humane investigators respond to calls almost weekly regarding the welfare of horses, goats, cats, and many other animals. We also offer a barn cat relocation program for stray or feral cats that may have become a nuisance.” Mitzelfelt continued. Funded strictly by donations, donors have the option of making a single monetary donation or becoming a sponsor for an ACAS animal which requires a monthly donation. A wish list for the non-for-profit includes: gift cards for gas stations, Farm and Fleet, Tractor Supply, Wal-Mart, PetCo, or PetSmart, Pine Shavings for bedding, Romex electrical wiring, cat food (dry), senior horse feed, goat feed, chicken feed, Purina Amplify horse feed, and any size and amount of wood (plywood, 2x4s, etc.) “We are offering at the festival low cost vaccines, adoptable animals. Food will be available, grab bags for a $5 donation, kid’s games such as potato sack, egg, and spoon races, along with horse rides, and music. Proceeds will help with the expansion of property at Another Chance Animal Sanctuary to allow for more rescue animals. Proceeds will also be applied towards purchasing fencing materials, material to run electricity buildings, and the general care of animals.” Mitzelfet added. “We appreciate all your support and financial contributions that will benefit the animals that have no voice. We hope to see you there!” For more information contact Jacqui Mitzelfelt: 815-670-1735 Email: acas2012@yahoo or visit facebook/ACASBC, anotherchanceanimalsanctuary
