Festive feast-day, 2013, celebrated at Bhingar 23rd June 2013, The feast day of the Patron, St John the Baptist & the 163 year old Parish was celebrated with pomp and gaity. It all began with a traditional procession to evoke devotion. The novena Prayers were recited during the procession with the portrait of the Patron leading the people. Then a solemn Eucharist began. Altar servers led the way into church. The singing began. The five presiding concelebrants were the new ordinandi of the Jesuits, Diocesan and the Salesians. Fr. Sandeep Kolge officiated as the President of the Eucharist. Fr. Kishore Vidhate gave the introduction to the Mass. Fr. Sijju Varghese, SJ, led the rite of Penance, and three priests asked pardon for the three sins present in the Christian community of Bhingar, which are jealousy, gossip and groupism. Fr. Gesu Anthony, SDB, read the Gospel of Life. Fr. Vishal Tribuvan broke the Word of Life by preaching a stirring homily. The prayer of the faithful was prayed by a priestly people. The gifts for the offertory procession were carried in by a grateful faithful. The youth groups under Kaustubh, led the singing and choir. The Pumpkin house choir sang a post communion hymn and hymn to St John the Baptist. After Mass, the five newly ordained were given a satkar with coconut, shawl and bouquet of flowers. Those who newly entered the mission of Ahmednagar District, including the Argentinian Volunteers, Drs Milagres and Bellen, at BGVK, were given a flowery bouquet of welcome. Those who got their examination results, a promotion, opened a new shop or progressed in the field of education & development were awarded certificates. All guests were welcomed with the gift of a rose. Bhingar is a pro-active & happening parish where what happens is noticed and broadcasted on the Bhingar Bharpur Information service. (BBIS) Outside the church, a dance troope led by Victor & Angeli Mavely gave an enthralling hip hop dance performance. A community meal-‘chicken biryani‘– the favourite dish of all eaten with shira and salad, co-ordinated by the community brought the agape celebration to a climax. What is celebrated symbolically in church-liturgy also happens outside the church, in the liturgy of life in the form of an agape meal contributed for, by the entire community. The fathers and sisters, missionaries of the district had a private meal in the Priests’ Bhingar residence. Thus the parish feast of St John the Baptist, 2013, took place amidst the cry & plea for more rain in the region. The impact will be seen this year.
