FestiveHill Dungannon from the 21st to 28th has been a wonderful week of events. It began with Brass Band Busking in Town centre and family fun day on the hill, Local Women’s Magazine Business Awards, Harmony on the Hill for Cancer Choices, Heels on the Hill Fashion Show, Jimmy Buckley Country, Balmoral Big Band & Swing Gals with special guest Andrea Begley, Gannonball Run and finally Rock the Hill provided something for everyone. These added to a particularly busy week for me where I did a DVD intro for Council, Launched the Council Legacy, attended a couple of Charity events at Knockmanny and First Steps Women’s Centre, hosted a lunch for Coalisland Evergreen Club, Launched the Mid Ulster Business Awards, attended a Peace 3 celebration event for Donaghmore/Castlecaulfield Youth Club joint project, and the Official Opening of the Tyrone Garvaghy Facilities. I welcomed Minister John O’Dowd on his visit to the Gaelscoil/Naiscoil and Minister Arlene Foster to the launch of South West SME Export Development Programme. Due to other commitments I couldn’t attend a lengthy Council Ctte meeting, a Praxis event in Stormont, a Regional Transition Ctte in Belfast, a SWARD/DARD monthly update, a Parish Area Resource Team meeting, the NILGA AGM, a car boot sale in Cappagh. Therefore the fact that I only had 3 DLA forms and a small number of other issues was a blessing. Enjoyed a pint in Quinn’s Corner last night. On a more sombre note I went to the wake/funeral of 3 former political prisoners – Seamie Taggart, Micky O’Neill and Brendan Mc Grath. May they rest in Peace. It is sadder that we only gather together on these sad occasions.
