Few hours ago, I saw one post by Selwana Kesebonye of which she said that people should not worry about the person who might be appointed as the Vice President as he is likely to lose during BDP congress. I would like to differ with you my dear Sister, first allow me to change the hands of time, to the year 1997, the first Amendments of the Botswana Constitution by Dr Masire, few sections were affected, which compromises the Tenure of the President, Automatic succession, Voting age. However, the crucial part is The Automatic succession by the V.P, history tell us that during that time DR Kedikilwe was very powerful so much that he was going to defeat Dr Mogae and just because Mogae was Masire’s favorite, he was saved by the previously mentioned amendment of the constitution. Squabbles aroused between the Barathi Party and Party A but because it was prior to 1999 Elections, the matter was resolved within the BDP. The same thing happened during Dr Mogae’s time, David Magang was popular than Khama and surely he was going to defeat SKI and the same fate that befell Kedikilwe perpetuated to Magang. Few years down the Line, Khama roused to popularity, he destroyed the BDP Factions, those who Questioned him, “were either fired or they were rejected from the party”, that is why under Khama we see people being banned for life, i.e the recent Katse saga though he was later forgiven. Now are you telling us that Khama’s handpicked VP will lose during BDP congress?? How?? Let remind you that, What Khama wants get the green light even when it violates the party constitution and what he don’t want get trashed even when its beneficial to the party.
