Few people get to sail in the hostile environment of the Southern Ocean, with its storms, freezing cold, sea-ice and icebergs. The versatile Offshore Patrol Vessel HMNZS OTAGO returned to Base on Sunday from a two-month Southern Ocean deployment, taking Ministry of Primary Industries fisheries inspectors to board vessels fishing in New Zealands southernmost zone. As well as the storms and the cold, Ships Company found many things of great beauty, not the least the penguins and birdlife.
