Few points for my FB friends, 1. Verdict was given based on Redcliff line drawn during 1947 based on which greater India was divided into 2 countries when British left. According to that line, water body where new moor or talpotti emerged always fell in Indian territory. 2. talpotti as a tiny island was formed after the 1970 cyclone. talpotti vanished/disappeared under deep sea during 1988 cyclone. 3. Late Ziaur Rahman tried to make talpotti as a domestic political issue (he never raised this with India) during 1979/1980 but he or his government or even subsequent government NEVER came out with a map showing talpotti within Bangladesh territory. 4. Still, while filing the case we did produce a map (because there was a believe among some section of people that there is talpotti and that is ours) claiming talpotti is within Bangladesh but that was rejected because there is no historical/old map showing talpotti within Bangladesh territory. 5. ITLOS team did visited the area where talpotti used to be but island was not found. Even Indian authority used infrared camera but failed to establish that there is any island. 6. ITLOS only deals with maritime boundary, they do not deal with land disputes or islands. Therefore it is wrong to claim that Bangladesh lost talpotti because of this verdict. Talpotti was never ours. Talpotti was temporarily created by nature for 18 years only, within India territory. Achievements thru this historical verdict can not be undermined by bringing in talpotti as an issue. People who are trying to raise this as an issue are surely disturbed by the fact that we have 19,467 square km of new sea, 10 new undisputed deep sea oil/gas blocks and many other known and unknown resources. Please make little effort to know the truth and at the same time find out true friends and enemies of Bangladesh.
