Few things in life R as much fun as good loe fashion Camping ......Throw my Dads big drop cloth on the ground....Put our sleeping bags on the dropcloth.....Gather lots of firewood......have our cans of beenie wennies, chips, vienna sausage, potted meat, crackers and some snacks and drinks.....Camp is set up next to the old lock n dam @ Ohatchee and us boys roam around in the backwaters......We all have out 22 rifles and pistols and do a little target practice......Its peaceful and quiet here near Coosa River......There are usually @ least 6 of us boys and some stay @ the campsite while others roam the woods and fish off the old lock n dam......Getting late so I start pilling up small sticks and use dry leaves and paper to start our camp fire.....Good fire going so we carefully lay big sticks and big logs on the fire.......a huge fire going and now we gather round the camp fire and have a good supper sitting on our sleeping bags....its.dark and we get our sticks and roast marshmellows .......A few men camped out a little ways from us and a nice man walks down enjoying a evening walk and asks us boys if we have something to drink.....Sitting on the ground I always did the talking......I said hello how are you to the man.....Then I told him sorry.....We Dont Drink.....He was nice and a little loaded and said thats good...You dont need to drink.....we smiled and he walked on......With 6 of us boys and some big boys and we had guns and knives we were never afraid and nobody would mess with all of anyway......This was not a good place to take your young kids camping.........It was a getaway for so many older men who wanted to just relax and drink......Good ole fashion camping........Miss it....(-;
