The bitter tang of adrenaline rose sharply in my throat and my heart thudded painfully against my ribs. “Did we hurt her? Tell me we didn’t hurt the girl,” I cried. I shoved back from the desk, slamming into the bookshelves that I should have remembered were there. A tiny Lilith figurine toppled to the floor, shattering into about a million pieces. I half-expected to see Terael watching me from beside the door, looking like a golden-skinned escapee from a troupe of exotic dancers, but he was back to being a disembodied presence spread out upon the air. >>You did not say you had done mental battle with him so recently, my brother.
