Fidelity Bank reiterates commitment to devt of SMEs: OUR REPORTER: CHINENYE ANUFORO and TOCHUKWU ONUMMADU Fidelity Bank Plc has reiterated its commitment to the development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) as it plans to hold inaugural annual SME conference. According to its Managing/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, who disclosed this at a press conference held in Lagos to announce the conference slated for Tuesday, December 9, the bank’s renewed focus on the SMEs is driven by the increasing role of SMEs as critical agents of economic development and transformation in Nigeria. His words: “In line with this, we created a dedicated SME Banking Division (Fidelity Managed SMEs), which focuses on providing solutions to the challenges faced by SMEs through a multifaceted approach, one of which is our flagship SME-focused radio programme (the Fidelity SME Forum), a major component of the business advisory and business management capacity building end of our business.” Okonkwo noted that the forthcoming inaugural Annual SME Conference was conceived to deepen the knowledge-sharing process, which the bank’s SME-focused radio programme already affords and will therefore go a long way in cementing its position as the leading SME bank in Nigeria. The theme of the maiden edition of the conference, which is “Positioning Nigerian SMEs for Growth”, he explained, is at the heart of Fidelity’s passion and commitment to building Nigerian entrepreneurs. He added that the conference is planned to provide insightful access to range of key factors affecting the development of SMEs in Nigeria from a wide array of SME development stakeholders; deeper understanding of Fidelity’s innovative range of SME-tailored products and services; access to robust advisory/networking platform that could open new doors and opportunities and a platform for celebrating the contributions of past guests that have appeared on the Fidelity SME Forum radio programme. Aside the target audience – aspiring and existing entrepreneurs – the event will also have in attendance key distinguished business leaders, policy makers, SME development stakeholders, NGOs, among others. The conference has also been structured to enable interactions between participating SMEs and the bank’s array of model entrepreneurs, panelists and three panel discussion sessions along the following themes: Leveraging Technology for SME Growth, Overcoming Barriers to Funding and Succeeding against All Odds-business Experience Sharing. Some of the discussants include Chief Leo-Stan Ekeh, founder of Zinox Technologies; IK Mbagwu, Executive Director, Fidelity SME Banking Business and Mrs. Nike Ogunlesi, founder/CEO, Ruff ‘n’ Tumble.
