Field Deputy Med Investigator University of New Mexico Medical Investigator, Albuquerque Salary: $9.96 to $13.95 / hr Final Filing Date: December 31, 2015 The Office of the Medical Investigator is looking for highly motivated and independent individuals to conduct death investigations in various counties around the state. Duties: Under indirect supervision and on an on-call basis, investigators respond to unattended, traumatic, and/or suspicious deaths to help determine the cause and manner of death. Field deputies interview families, witnesses, and law enforcement as to the circumstances of the death, conduct a preliminary examination of the decedent on scene, collect blood, urine, and vitreous fluids for toxicology testing, order and review medical records, take legal custody of the body, arrange for transportation to a holding facility, and generate a written report of findings. Remains available to respond to reportable deaths on a 24-hour basis, as per call schedule. This is an on-call position and is not benefits eligible. Reliable computer and Internet access is required. Ability to lift, move, and manipulate heavy bodies, with or without assistance, is required. Requirements: High school diploma or GED with no previous work experience required. Candidates for this position must be eligible for employment as verified by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA); those individuals on the OIG/GSA Exclusion Lists will not be considered for hire. Once hired, periodic checks will be made for eligibility of continued employment. This position will require a pre-employment criminal background check. Future and/or continued employment in the position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a satisfactory background check, which is one that does not include any disqualifying findings. Formal deputization as a Deputy Medical Investigator is required upon completion of training. Possession of a valid New Mexico drivers license is a requirement for this job. May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening. UNM will offer Hepatitis vaccination to the candidate. They may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer. Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Medical, medicolegal, or law enforcement experience preferred. Demonstrated experience: As a Deputy Medical Investigator or Coroner working in a Medical Examiner facility in some other capacity, such as a morphology tech, histology tech, or photographer in a medical or law enforcement field Knowledge of: Medical and forensic terminology and ability to work with computers and internet access Do you have the Education Required?
