Field Technician Job Description APPLY ONLINE AT WWW.TWINSTARS.COM Reports To: Area Supervisor Position Classification: Non-Exempt Starting Salary Range: DOE Position Type: Full-Time Revision Date: June 10, 2013 Approved by: Roger Armstrong JOB DESCRIPTION: Summary Under the direct supervision of an Area Supervisor, this position is responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of remote oil and gas machinery. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. Ensures that machines continue to run smoothly by performing routine preventative maintenance such as checking fluid levels, replacing filters or performing other maintenance actions according to job plans on work orders and general observations. 2. Detects machine malfunctions or problems by paying attention to unusual sounds and/or visually inspecting machines or equipment and by starting machines and observing mechanical operations, gauges, gas flow meters, and readings in the control panel to determine proper functioning of equipment. 3. Lubricates machines, machine parts, or other equipment by applying grease and oils and other materials according to specified procedures. 4. Removes and repairs or replaces by dismantling defective machines and equipment (i.e. engines and compressors) and installing new or repaired parts by following specifications and blueprints and using precision measuring equipment. 5. Reassembles machines after repair or maintenance work by understanding mechanical operations of the equipment components, observing how machines were taken apart, and referring to technical manuals. 6. Cleans machinery by using rags, power washers, cleaning solvents, air guns, hoses, vacuums and other equipment and maintains work areas by raking area, adding soil enzymes, and cleaning up oil spills. 7. Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information by filling out the log book in the control panel and recording the same information in work order on laptop. 8. Records time and materials used on a job with a computer-based work order system. 9. Maintains appropriate level of inventory on truck; conducts semi-annual physical count of inventory on truck. 10. Communicates with customers for each job (work assignment) by phone, email or face-to-face on work tasks. 11. Communicates to customers and supervisors about complying with safety procedures by filling out a printed JSA (job safety analysis) form for each work assignment. 12. Follows safety procedures by wearing protective clothing and gear and participates in safety trainings provided by each customer. 13. Operates service trucks by driving in adverse weather conditions, putting on tire chains, and operating crane. 14. Performs minor maintenance on company vehicle, cleans and maintains vehicle, schedules safety and maintenance inspections, and communicates with Supervisor when other maintenance needs to be scheduled. 15. Ability to perform basic math functions. 13. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment 1. This job primarily requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions (above 90 degrees or below 32 degrees depending on the time of year). Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions. Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. 2. This role routinely uses office equipment such as a computer and phone and mechanized equipment such as pneumatic tools, hand or power tools, cranes and hoists, sandblasting equipment and acetylene welding/cutting torch. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to operate a motor vehicle and may occasionally be required to operate a forklift. 3. Requires exposure to contaminants, hazardous equipment, hazardous conditions, high places, and sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Requires exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites or stings. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Requires being clean shaven to wear respiratory protection equipment to protect against H2S gas (Artesia only). 4. Requires making decisions that impact the results of co-workers, clients or the company. Requires making decisions that impact other people, the financial resources, and/or the image and reputation of the organization. Includes responsibility for the health and safety of others. Physical Demands 1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. 2. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. 3. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds. 4. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Expected Hours of Work Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position regularly requires overtime. Weekend on-call every 4-5 weeks. Travel Daily travel to assigned well locations. Occasional travel out-of-town to attend required training or work at branch locations. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Two years or more related experience and/or training associated with one or more of the following areas: electrical, general mechanical, plumbing, piping systems, compressors or engines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, flowcharts, manuals and schematics.
