Fifa announces World Cup draw criteria Fifa has announced that it will use the September’s rankings for seeding of the final round of Africa’s 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The Fifa website on Tuesday posted that the African draw will be made on September 16 in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo. “The group winners of the second qualifying round will discover their rivals for one of the continent’s five berths at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil. The five best-placed sides in the 12 September 2013 edition of the Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be seeded for the draw,” Fifa website stated. Malawi are in the race for the third round qualification. The Flames are two points behind Group F leaders Nigeria and the winner will be ultimately known after the last qualifier on September 6. Last week Malawi blew up chances of qualifying for the third round after they gave up a 2-1 lead in the 90th minute through an own goal. Nigeria failed to utilise Malawi’s mistake by drawing with Namibia in Windhoek. Malawi needs to win the game while Super Eagles are searching for a point to make it to the third round. If successful, Malawi will have to work hard to make sure they are seeded. Malawi national team has maintained position 109 on Coca Cola Fifa rankings for the just ended month of May. However, the Flames are on position 31 on the Africa rankings. Meanwhile, the eight best group runners-up in European qualifying will find out who blocks their path to one of the last four European tickets to Brazil 2014 on 21 October 2013. The draw will take place at the Home of Fifa in Zurich. The four highest-placed teams in the 17 October 2013 edition of the Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking be seeded in the draw.
