Fifty years ago today The Righteous Brothers hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Youve Lost That Lovin Feelin. Three weeks later, the song hit No. 1, where it spent two weeks. The song was written by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, and Phil Spector, and it is a prime example of Spectors Wall of Sound production technique. It was The Righteous Brothers biggest hit, and in 1999 BMI named it the song that had gotten the most radio and television airplay in the 20th century. The Righteous Brothers got their name in 1962 when they were performing in LA as part of a five-member group called The Paramours. After one performance, a Marine shouted out That was righteous, brothers! and the duo adopted the name as they struck out on their own. Personnel on this recording include Cher as one of the backing vocalists and Glen Campbell on guitar. It was a long song for the era, and Spector deliberately mislabeled the record as lasting 3:05 when it was 3:45, to trick DJs into giving it more airplay. https://youtube/watch?v=r8hjtFq3vE0
