Fig went to a party today :) Just went to our home from home for AM94 (yuck) and AM98. Nice and quiet. He warmed up foot perfectly, feel like were really working together from the word go these days. Slightly terrified by the prospect of trot HP zig zags and changes on the long diagonal in 94, but nothing like throwing yourself in at the deep end!!!! Fig actually surprised me and handled both tests pretty well. Loss of balance in one trot ext and on a circle, redoing a circle in the right place lol, a centre line snakehead and one squiffy change lost us valuable marks. Buttttt the canter was softer and he took more weight behind, the lateral work was soft and the poll stayed up, med and collected walk were spot on, shame about a dodgy teeth baring moment in the ext walk ;) 98 was a mixed bag; a (severe) loss of concentration in the walk piris earned us a 4 for a trot piri and a 4 for a snakehead and western style spin round... The walk was um not good and we had a little anticipation going into canter and a lone wild change offsetting the other good ones on the serpentine. Again, buttttt, the other changes were 100% rideable, he actually let me sit him down and keep the back soft rather than bunching up against me as soon as we come round the corner, the HP had a nice consistent angle and the trot was was very accurate. With the judge in mind I mentally bet myself a tenner that Id get around the 60% mark for both, and mentioned to Fran that I thought 59% and 61%. I was right!!!! But the other way round, 60.88% in 94 and 59.74% in 98. Ho hum. You cant please everyone, and we still werent last in either class (we were training) and up against some very nice and very experienced horses! Super chuffed with Fig, warmed up like a total dude and made us both smile after a few weeks of hell. I really feel like the bits Ive been working hard on are starting to come together in the ring, so all headed in the right direction. Came back home to a chilled out Goofy the (actual) stallion still being pestered by Bruce the (faux) stallion. Horses, got to love them! Nic xoxo
