Fighting nafs is hard. It’s basically, you, fighting yourself. But it’s because of our nafs that makes us humans, and that’s what He has decided for us. Be informed that there are good nafs, and bad nafs. The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. was created with nafs as well, but because of his purity that Allah has blessed him with, his nafs was 100% good. While ours, well, we’re not too sure of its stability if our imaan is unstable as well, right? As such, one of our biggest enemies is ourselves. Syaitans use our nafs as a highway to mess us up. The more troubled nafs, the easier the devils get to us. To solve this, we must firstly educate it and train it. Acknowledging our shortcomings is one of the first steps in disciplining ourselves. Once we know our weaknesses, we know how to take good care of our eyes, our tongue, our ears, our limbs. To take care of our hearts however, we need to recite the Qur’an, make fardh and sunnah salah, fast, pay zakat, perform umrah and hajj, help the orphans, make sincere donations, and complimentary acts Allah s.w.t. loves. With sincere effort, Allah’s help will be coming our way. Effort is important, but not just any effort, GOOD effort, must be put forth first. Rasulullah s.a.w. noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it. Rasulullah s.a.w. asked the Bedouin, “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I put my trust in Allah.” Rasulullah s.a.w. then said, “Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah.” — [Tirmidhi]
