Fiji Independence Day Yesterday, our Waitaki Fijian group gathered to celebrate the 44th anniversary of their independence and they invited me along as Chief Guest. Along with speeches, singing and dancing, we also experienced some kava. I wasnt sure whether I should have some before my speech but I think it went OK anyway :) And they put on an excellent lunch with hangi-style cooking. They sang Happy Birthday to me and treated me to a beaut cake. However I wasnt so keen on them playing Guess The Age with me... The celebration was another exciting layer of the Waitaki community!
